About "Ulpia Marciana" artclone

The original from the archaeological museum of Ostia Antica depicts Ulpia Marciana, the elder sister of Roman Emperor Trajan, who reigned from 98 to 117 AD. She was born in Spain into a noble family and was granted the title of “Augusta”, an honorific title given to empresses and honored women of the imperial family.

The head is adorned with a diadem and the hair is intricately styled, with waves and curls arranged around the face and pulled back into what appears to be a bun or a series of braids at the back of the head. The facial features are serene with defined lips and captivating almond-shaped eyes. The eyes are uncarved, which is typical for classical sculptures as they were often painted.

In each setting, indoors or out, the bust of Marciana invites those who pass by to pause and reflect, if just for a moment, on the beauty that has endured through ages.
